Anna and Mirthe, Day Care Centre Photo, March 2006

Anna is camera shy, like her mother. She looks like she would rather eat worms than sit in front of the photographer. I could eat her up, she's so cute.

Mirthe lives for the camera, that's pretty obvious. I had asked the afterschool program leader if she could kind of tidy up Mirthe's hair before the photo was taken (Mirthe gets picked up from school by the day care leader.) Because I know what Mirthe's hair looks like after a day of kindergarten. It needs grownup help.

I also know what Mirthe's hair looks like after she's done it herself and that's it there in the photo above. I can see and hear her, refusing all forms of help, standing in front of the tiny little mirror. See her do her best to fix the ponytails, set the barrettes just right. Smoothing down the bangs that are the result of her attempt to cut her own hair, last August. And when everything's in place, giving herself a huge smile. Because not only is she beautiful in her own eyes, but she gets to pose in front of the camera for three whole minutes.

Man I love that kid. Posted by Picasa

For the future, I think this photo is much cuter than one with perfect hair done by a stranger no one will remember by then.
